Rebuilding Your Life

My life had become so insular that even making a cup of coffee reminded me there was no one beside me to ask whether they wanted one too.

I kept treating every difficult morning, memory and moment of doubt as evidence that I had not healed enough yet.

Why does it feel like I'm working so hard but getting nowhere when I rarely stop? I have worked all day. I have answered messages, corrected things, moved files, rewritten paragraphs, solved small problems and made decisions that took longer than expected. Then someone asks, How’s it going? and I do not know how to answer. I know I have been busy. I know I have not wasted the day. But nothing feels finished enough to show them. The project is still open. The difficult part is

You wake up, work, eat, tidy up and go to bed. Nothing is obviously wrong, but the days have stopped feeling as though they are leading anywhere.

Sometimes one small task turns into trying to solve your work, money, home and entire future before you have even begun.

How do you move forward when you don’t feel ready? You do not have to be completely healed before allowing your life to begin moving again.

Fear of change can make you feel as though you need certainty before you begin. Sometimes the hardest part isn't moving forward. It's believing you have to know every answer first.

Some mornings the life you're trying to build feels further away than it did yesterday. Confidence is often less about believing in yourself and more about finding your footing again.

Rebuilding your life after 60 can bring a quiet kind of grief. Not because you've failed, but because life no longer looks the way you imagined it would.
